I'll have to ask the instructors/ gurus about the concrete vibrator at the bronze pour tomorrow. I'm really curious what their answer will be. I had a few tiny bubbles on my piece from that casting, though the only bothersome ones were my fault. The wax odalisques all trapped a bit of air on their fronts due to their angle, and I had to later resculpt those parts in the bronze.
It's also going to be interesting to see how many bubbles and flaws I get this time, compared to my first casting. This time, I made sure to spray the wax with hairspray, which should act the same as shellacking it.

The only bronze guys I have listed right now are the first odalisques, for sale as a set. Here's a link to them! https://www.etsy.com/listing/116730071/bronze-odalisques-a-set-of-three-bronze
The others are coming along - I'm sewing pillows for a second set that's sort of gunmetal colored. I ALMOST declared the tall guy done, but then sunlight unexpectedly turned his patina from pastel to black!

Great post Eva (how about Thundergurgh?). I'm really enjoying reading about this new casting process of yours. One thing I thought about when you mentioned keeping bubbles off of the mold when you make the investment: concrete vibrator used in construction. We used one here when I poured the pilings for my kiln shed. Basically just a big long flexible vibrator that you can lower into the mixture or press onto the side of the mold. The bubbles practically jump out of the mix, and it's quick. Completely eliminated bubbles in my plaster molds too.
The odalisques are looking good. Do you have any of your bronze work up for sale somewhere?

Hello Eva:
I've been at Guldagergaard for 2 weeks and also have developed a
'relationship" with the spiral octagonal earthwork which is in a direct sight line from my bed, through 2 tree trunks and a double smokestack somewhere in the distance behind the center of the work. I have been asking but so far have not found who the sculptor is who did the work. Do you perhaps happen to know?
I am working with the printing on clay symposium and would like to credit the correct sculptor on the work I am doing about this sight line. Any information you may have would be most helpful.

Also, by coincidence, Stephanie Osser who contacted you on this sight is here at Guldagergaard again now....

Best regards,
Kat

Hi Kristina,
I've only spent a bit of time playing with foam, and I still haven't found an ideal way of finishing it. It seems like there is some sort of way out there, but I just haven't found it yet. I mean, it sounds like most theme parks are made from sculpted poly urethane foam with some sort of hard coating on top.
There's some good info on http://www.sculpture.net, which has been my main resource in all this. My only advice would be to not to go with the spray can insulation type foam... it has more squish in the finished foam than is desirable, once you carve into it at all.
 Good luck!

Hello Eva,
I am currently working with my local library on making a large tree for children to go into, within the public library.
I see you work with foam, and you have experience doing sculpture. I am trying to discern if it is possible to put a coating on the spray foam/chicken wire sculpture, that would make it hard.
Any ideas? Thanks. I appreciate it.

Hey Eva,

Very cool installation! I love the one flying out of the airduct(?) Nice idea with the time-lapse. The first thing that came to mind was Edie Brickell and the New Bohemians' "Ghost of a dog."

Keep up the imaginative work!

"Hey" to everyone,
